62056-01 - Field trip: We’ll Meet Again: Cafés, Inns, Bars, Eateries, and Restaurants in a Globalizing World 10 CP

Semester fall semester 2021
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Till Förster (till.foerster@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The course extends over two terms, and the field work takes place in between the two semesters, that is, in January and February 2022.
The autumn term is dedicated to methods and the ethnography of the respective region where you will want to travel to. You will be introduced in methodological discussions and debates, in the relevant theoretical background, and in practical issues such as ethics of conducting ethnographic research. It concludes with a research proposal, which has to be submitted before Christmas. It has to clarify your research question and how you will want to address it.
Field work may be conducted here in Switzerland or elsewhere, preferably in West Africa. Travel expenses will largely be covered by the chair of anthropology and a private foundation.
The second term, the spring term 2022, addresses the analysis of your field data and the writing of the report.
