Content | Graduate students are often motivated to carry out their research project to contribute to broader societal problems. Merging academic and societal objectives, however, poses complicated and difficult challenges. Academic knowledge formats, such as a PhD manuscript or journal articles, are addressed to the academic community rather than to stakeholder groups involved or affected by the research project. Nevertheless, engaging beyond these written formats during the course of graduate studies potentially holds unique opportunities to contribute to real-life problems and also to prepare future career paths. This workshop offers graduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to step back and consider their research project against a broader contextual background involving both academic and non-academic settings. Navigating these different settings involves common challenges that can be addressed and managed strategically. The workshop introduces students to conceptual and procedural tools from the fields of Science & Technology Studies and Transdisciplinary Research that may be consulted for this strategic exercise. The workshop combines presentations and paper-based discussions with group-work. Preparatory reading is expected. |
