| Content | This seminar will cover motor milestones through the developmental stages, integrating perspectives from current research and an overview of the potential causes of delayed or missed milestones. The seminar will begin with a general introduction to the existing theories of motor development (e.g., “ag-es and stages” and their specific features). Weeks following will cover motor development in chrono-logical order and at least one session will cover the various health conditions that can impact (i.e., delay) motor milestones. Students will be expected to partake in class and/or small group discussions throughout the semester, and give a presentation on an article, theory, or concept relevant to the course topic later in the semester. |
| Learning objectives | The primary goal of the seminar is to promote the learning of key theories and relevant concepts in motor development and broader psychological science. Secondary goals are for students to gain practice in thinking critically about existing research gaps, evaluating current research, and making practical or real-world connections from the course content. Lastly, students can aim to practice the former scientific skills in English throughout this seminar. |
