| Content | ABGESAGT Der Workshop wird von Dr. Dale Barr (University of Glasgow) angeboten. The goal of this workshop is to provide a foundational understanding of the use of mixed-effects models in the analysis of panel (longitudinal) data, with a focus on repeated-measures data. Mixed-effects models are regression models that estimate a 'mix' of fixed and random effects. We will spend the first day covering basic aspects of regression that are critical to the analysis of panel data. On the second day, we will extend these techniques into the mixed-effects framework. Two pre-requisites for the workshop are: (1) basic understanding of linear regression and (2) some familiarity with the R statistical programming environment (https://cran.r-project.org) is an important pre-requisite for the workshop. While it will be possible to understand the conceptual content of the workshop without knowing R, there will be interactive exercises that require understanding of the fundamentals of R programming. For students who are unfamiliar with R, a good starting place are the online course books at: https://psyteachr.github.io. Plan: Day 1 • Modeling trends -polynomial models -Generalized Additive Mixed Models (GAMMs) • Coding predictors and interpreting interactions in regression -continuous vs categorical predictors -categorical-by-continuous interactions -multiway interactions • Modeling binary and count data with Generalized Linear Models Day 2: Mixed-effects modeling • Variance components (variance-covariance matrices) • Fixed and random factors • A longitudinal data analysis walkthrough: the sleepstudy data • Specifying random effects to match the study design • Dealing with convergence problems |
