| Content | In this course we will be looking at the international law frameworks related to "poverty in all its forms". The course is structured around four main issues that are debated globally: how to define poverty; how to eliminate poverty through economic growth; how to empower those in poverty; and other aspects of law that particularly affect those living in poverty. The class will require reading primary and secondary legal literature but also a willingness to think about how legal systems and societal values interact. |
| Learning objectives | Students will understand the different approaches to evaluating extreme poverty and inequality, and be able to explain how international law rules impact on low income states and impoverished individuals. Students will be able to recognize how domestic legal systems and international law interact in the areas of poverty reduction efforts. |
