Content The course sensitizes students to the life course approach in public health. Concepts & Theories from a biomedical and social science perspective are taught to enable the student to identify links between the social and biomedical life-course specific factors, describe the life course impact of health determinants or disease, and life-phase specific indicators and opportunities for health across the life course. They will learn to apply theories in class, in home-work and in the course assessment to improve understanding of life course public health issues.
Learning objectives The aim of the seminar series is to sensitize the students to a life course approach to public health and the social and biomedical concepts applied.
Students learn about the life-course concept in public health.
Biomedical concepts are taught to enable the students to understand how biological, psychological and environmental exposures act in early life and throughout the life-course
Theoretical frameworks and concepts used in social science are taught to understand the social and cultural context and factors of public health and health across the life course
Students reflect on health indicators across the life course to identify life-phase specific indicators, needs and solutions from a public health and a social science view.
Students apply the theories and concepts learned to a public health topic of choice and present their findings to the class, thereby practicing their presentation techniques, scientific argumentation and discussion competences.
