Content Key concepts of demography: fertility, mortality and migration
Age and sex structure of a population, including dependency ratios, demographic transition and demographic dividend
Mortality, including age-specific and standardized mortality rates, life expectancy at birth and later ages, life tables, mortality data and causes of death
Fertility, including basic measurements of fertility, reproduction of human populations, models for fertility analysis, birth interval analyses and period versus cohort fertility
Migration, including migration trends, theories of migration, sources of migration data and direct and indirect measures of migration
Basics of social demography and insights into historical demography
Learning objectives To understand key concepts of demography and demographic measures, and to understand why they are important for public health; to know and understand data collection methods and data sources in demography; to know and understand the most important summary measures of population health.
