Content | China has become a global actor with impact in all world regions and international institutions. The presence of Chinese diplomats, companies, investors, tourists, scholars and emigrants is felt in many countries around the world as well as in international organizations. What kind of normative and material impact does global China have in specific countries and regions? How to conceptually and understand its multifaceted influence? This seminar is a Katekisama seminar co-designed for students of Basel University, University of Ghana and University of Bonn. It will explore different framings of China’s rise and global presence, including 1) geopolitics and geoeconomics, 2) knowledge and epistemology, 3) influence operations & soft power. Students will work in groups and also have the opportunity to discuss with experts from China and Ghana. |
Learning objectives | The seminar is animated by a research focus and will include live expert conversations which China researchers from various countries. |

Admission requirements | The number of participants from the University of Basel is limited to 15. Participants are selected by date of enrolment. |
Course application | The course participation is limited to 15 students in Bonn and Basel respectively. Places will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. |
