Content Online dictionaries and corpora are considered indispensable tools for modern language research. This MA research seminar examines the variety of approaches and methods for collecting and evaluating the data obtained from these sources in order to gain essential insights into words, their meaning and their pragmatic-contextual use. Students have the opportunity to carry out a number of empirical research tasks. The overriding aim of this seminar is to provide students with the skills and methods required for a variety of research designs in the areas of lexicology, semantics and pragmatics with their associated aspects.
Learning objectives At the end of this seminar students
- can use a variety of approaches and methods to collect and analyse linguistic data using online dictionaries and corpora
- have gained experience in conducting their own empirical research
- are familiar with the essential skills and methods required for diverse research designs in lexicology, semantics and pragmatics
