Content Kazuo Ishiguro (b. 1954) has been one of the leading British novelists from the publication of his debut novel "A Pale View of Hills" in 1982 until he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017. In this course, we will study three of his novels as well as two films based on his novels.
Learning objectives In-depth study of Kazuo Ishiguro's novels, as well as of their reception and of their adaptation into films.
Bibliography The following books are required for the course:
- Kazuo Ishiguro, "An Artist of the Floating World" (1986)
- Kazuo Ishiguro, "The Remains of the Day" (1989)
- Kazuo Ishiguro, "Never Let Me Go" (2005)
The Labyrinth bookstore at Nadelberg 17 has copies.

The following films are required for the course:
- James Ivory, director, "The Remains of the Day" (1993)
- Mark Romanek, director, "Never Let Me Go" (2010)

Selected secondary literature on the three books and the two films will be provided by the instructor.
