70381-01 - Block course: Advances in Cancer Epidemiology 3 CP

Content In the course, PhD students will work intensively on their PhD studies. The course is built on the principles of self-directed learning. Depending on the stage in the PhD process, students may work on the proposal development, testing of study tools, preparation of PhD thesis or defense etc. According to students needs we will craft input sessions. Students are expected to present their studies, to determine a learning plan for the three weeks block course and to define any demand for input from other students, such as peer review. Students have to regularly feed back on the learning journey. By the end of course, students will have to sit a final written exam.
Learning objectives By the end of this course students will have learnt to
1) define learning goals, manage time and assess their achievements
2) explain and apply principles of cancer epidemiology in different study settings
3) create a presentation or text targeted to a pre-defined audience.
Comments This is a closed block course for Swiss TPH PhD students working in the field of cancer epidemiology. The course will done in hybrid mode. The course will offer input sessions in the mornings, thereafter students have time to work on their PhD studies, the afternoons are reserved for group work depending on the specific demands of the participating students. The final exams will be written (open book). PhD students have to attend 80% of the time and pass the final written exam.

Course application This is a closed block course for team members only.
The course runs for 3 weeks (21.8. to 8.9. 2023) daily from 9 am to 4 pm.
