Content | Exploring the future theoretically and especially from a social science perspective is never an easy undertaking. Yet nearly all individuals, groups, regions, and institutions have to plan and make choices, based on partial, conflicting, and contradictory information. We are today experiencing disruptions and changes similar to those during the industrial and digital revolutions, while large-scale geopolitical and technological developments put into question who, where, or what we will be in a few decades. Some experts argue that all talk about paradigm shifts are exaggerated, while others declare that the 4th Industrial Revolution will change what it means to be human. In this seminar, we will explore a selection of themes at the forefront of sociotechnology and AI. The specific topics covered in the seminar will be negotiated with the participants during the first meeting. |
Learning objectives | Participants will - be exposed to writings on future trends, - explore how future trends may effect individuals, groups, regions, and societies differently, and - explore how a sociological and social science perspective can contribute to recognizing current and future challenges, solutions, and even opportunities. |
